The first illustrated edition of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy was published in 1994 by Weidenfeld & Nicolsonin the UK and Harmony Books in the US. This oversized edition featured Gary Day’s imaginative illustrations, which complemented Douglas Adams’ text with whimsical and surreal visuals. The book was bound in silver-foil covers, giving it a distinctive and eye-catching appearance. Notably, this edition included the first appearance of the 42 Puzzle, designed by Adams himself, and a photograph of Adams and his literary agent Ed Victor as the two space cops.
